What is My Little Pony?
My Little Pony is a brand introduced by Hasbro in the mid-1980s. A My Little Pony is, physically, a colorful plastic figure of a horse. This site has a great image collection of different pony poses and looks so you can see how ponies have changed throughout the years. They were updated and re-released in September of 2003, starting a renewed interest. Hasbro has since 'themed' each year, 2003 being "Celebration", 2004 being "The Friendship Ball", and 2005 being "Butterfly Island".
Generations:
G1 - 1983-1992 [These ponies are called classic or G1 (for Generation 1) ponies.]
G2 - 1997-1999 [These are the slim-legged, 'princess-style' ponies.]
G3 - 2003-Present [These ponies appear similar to (but smaller than) the G1 ponies.]
For more information, you can check out the My Little Pony Wikipedia entry.
What is customizing?
Customizing a pony is when you change what the pony looks like to make her 'custom'. Customizing usually involves changing the mane and tail of a pony(,) and repainting the body and symbols to make her look how you want. This way you can have holiday ponies (a raindeer pony or a special birthday pony), a special version of another pony (a baby custom of an adult pony), or anything you want (Ponies on Parade)!
Customizing is usually only done to bait ponies to keep ponies in good condition for collectors who don't have them yet.
What is a bait pony?
A bait pony is a pony who is badly damaged or is a very common pony and so can be used for customizing.
A score of 3 is considered damaged enough to be a candidate for a pony hospital or customizing.
List of damages:
-Dirty [.5]
-Scratches [1]
-Cut hair [1]
-Damaged symbol and/or eyes [1-2]
-Rust [2]
-Mold [2]
-Pony cancer [2]
-Missing head/body [3]
What is a pony hospital?
A pony hospital is a person or group of people who essentially customize badly damaged ponies back into the pony they're supposed to be. They may have to do something as extensive as replacing her mane and tail or something as simple as cleaning her up.
What is FMA?
FMA stands for Fullmetal Alchemist (Full Metal Alchemist) which is an anime show. (If you want to know more about the show, this is a great site.) The characters I am making from this show are a family of three. The father, who works for an internal affairs branch of the military, is named Maes Hughes. The mother is Gracia Hughes. The adorable daughter is named Alicia/Elysia.
Who are the ponies going to become?
Bright Bouquet Family:
Daddy Bright Bouquet - Lt. Col. Maes Hughes
Mommy Bright Bouquet - Gracia Hughes
Baby Bright Bouquet - Alicia/Elysia
Daddy Sweet Celebrations is going to stay the way he is, for now. Wigwam was going to become Major Armstrong, but was discovered to be in good shape. Instead, Wigwam will have his mane and tail replaced and symbol touched up.
What are the ponies going to look like?
Hughes (Daddy Bright Bouquet) will be painted dark blue, the color of his uniform. He may or may not have silver hooves/shoes. He will have either a full body group of symbols (his daggers) or one on each flank. His mane and tail will be black. His mane will try to have a sproingy bit in front. He may or may not have glasses.
Gracia (Mommy Bright Bouqet) is unknown. I have yet to find my notes on her.
Alicia/Elysia (Baby Bright Bouqet) will have brown hair and green eyes (uncertain). Her symbol will be pictures of her and will most likely be one on each flank.
Who are you?
I'm a senior in high school who's been making websites since the summer of 7th grade. I've always loved horses and last year fell in love with My Little Pony. During that time, I was watching a series in Japan called Hagane no Renkinjustsushi and was involved in the fm_alchemist LiveJournal community.
One of my friends (treesock) was is completely obsessed with Hughes and when another friend (chexmixx) gave me her old ponies I looked at the Bright Bouquet Family and thought 'Hey! It'd be nifty to make these three ponies (who are already a family) into these three characters!'.
This website was made so I could document the process of my first custom ponies and as a portfolio example of my knowledge of CSS and PHP for my Senior Project.
What is a Senior Project?
My school requires all seniors to do a Senior Project before they graduate. The project is semi-integrated into our Senior Connections class. We select a topic, write a proposal, get a mentor, conduct research, create a final product, give an oral presentation to a panel of three people, and write a reflection paper on the experience.
My Senior Project proposal stated I would learn php and css and make at least two websites to put in a portfolio. Since making one of the websites was going to be a paid service for a wonderful lady who makes beautiful furniture, I wanted to have the other one(s) be something completely different. What could be more different than an MLP site?
